Getting dressed up for exams

I spent an hour and a half today in the law faculty, meeting with some students. This time just two came along to read the Bible, but that's pretty good seeing as its exam time. Both of them are Catholics, sort of practising. And for both of them meeting in a group to read the Bible is quite new.

We read from Luke 12:1-12, which finishes with this verse...

11 “When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, 12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”

There was an interesting connection for the students, because all of their final exams are oral... 1 on 1 with the professor! That is pretty freaky! Now, I think the verse is talking about giving a defence of the faith before authorities, not answering questions on the Argentine constitution. Yet I'm sure God can calm the nerves of the students as they get interrogated by their profes, although he might not give them the answers if they haven't studied!

While waiting for the group to start I noticed a lot of students were hanging around waiting for their exams... and they were all very well dressed! The guys in suits! Seriously. That is how it is done in the Law Faculty. You don't bother showing up if you aren't dressed properly. The other day I heard of one student who went to class in shorts, T-shirt and thongs. The profe made him stand up in front of everyone, and said, 'This is a lack of respect. Don't show up to my classes like this'. It's quite different to my uni days, when the guys who lived in the colleges rolled out of bed 5 minutes before class in shorts and thongs, perhaps in what looked like pyjamas.

The other thing with these 1-1 oral exams is that the students have to hang around all day. It might start at 8am, but they will be called one by one. If you surname starts with V,you probably won't be called until 3 o 4 in the afternoon... but you don't know for sure. The profe might decide to jump around... so you have to hang around just in case!
