A disturbing conversation with an Argentine woman today made me think hard about what real love is ....
Is it the bond between a mother and her only son?
Is it the friendship and support of your mum?
Or is it cementing an intimate relationship between boyfriend and girlfriend by having a baby together ... even if the father already has 5 kids to 2 other women, and doesn´t work to pay for any of them?
This is the pressure my companion was talking about. Her boyfriend can´t believe she truly loves him if she refuses to have his baby, despite the fact that her only son is already in high school and would need to forfeit his chance at an education to be a stay-at-home carer for his prospective sibling.
Of course, she would keep working as she always has. They have to eat.
My mind boggles at the selfishness of the demand. What sort of love is this, that demands everything, but gives nothing in return?
Its a far cry from the love of a Heavenly Father who gives everything, His only Son, for us who don´t deserve it.
