For a start there is a whole lot less hype- sure there is general interest but not the fascination (obsession?) that there is in Australia. The Argentines are keen to know how their teams go and generally they are much stronger in team sports than individual ones- hockey, volleyball, basketball, handball, and of course football- although this year not represented in football. But it doesn't consume every minute of the television and news.
In fact, we had a reminder during the games of priorities. Argentina was playing someone in womens hockey- not the final but a preliminary game. And in the middle of it they switched to a game of football- not Olympic football, just the run of the mill every week game of football. We couldn't believe it!
So of course we saw little of Aussies in action, but Lachlan kept us all up to date with regular internet checks- he even knew exactly what was going on in the sailing (and just as well, given that is where most of the golds came from!)
The one gold for Argentina came in Tae-kwon-do. A young guy from the province of Corrientes but who studies Ag science right here in the National University of Córdoba.
